Clash of the Titans (…on the Green)

Last year at the Spring Bowling Festival, two men stepped onto the green.

Two competitors. Two warriors. Two… relative newcomers to crown green bowls.

Aaron and James faced off in their very first match — an 11-up showdown that, to put it politely, didn’t exactly go the distance. Aaron stormed ahead, delivering a performance that can only be described as woods above the rest, sealing victory at 11–3.

James left the green disheartened… but far from defeated. Pride slightly dented (like a well-used bowl), he immediately called for a rematch.

And oh, what a year it’s been.

James has taken his preparation seriously. We’re talking full transformation. Regular gym sessions, a cleaner diet, and even cycling added to his routine — all in pursuit of improved stamina, sharper movement, and a more dynamic presence on the green. Rumour has it he’s now capable of delivering a bowl and chasing it down, just for good measure.

Aaron, meanwhile, has been quietly confident — some might say resting on his laurels, others might say strategically evolving. He’s taken up rock climbing to strengthen his grip, aiming for ultimate control over his woods. But perhaps his greatest development is his newly acquired head of hair — a feature he claims will help him judge wind speed and direction. A bold tactic, but we respect the commitment.

Both players have also invested in new glasses. Whether this is for improved line and length… or simply a sign that time waits for no bowler… remains to be seen.

And now, the stage is set.

The long-awaited rematch takes place next Thursday, and anticipation is building. Spectators will be gathering, tensions rising, and friendships — temporarily — set aside. Expect drama. Expect skill. Expect at least one questionable measure.

Of course, it’s all in the spirit of good fun. There will be a quick whip-round before the match, with donations going to the winner’s chosen charity — so while pride is on the line, there’s a bigger win at stake too.

So, the question is…

Are you backing Aaron — the reigning champion, steady hand, and follicly-enhanced forecaster?

Or James — the determined underdog, fitter, faster, and ready to roll his way to redemption?

Either way, it promises to be a match that’s right up your alley.
